Pre-school Wish List

The twins are now officially enrolled in kindergarten at the Tuburan Institute, Inc., a Waldorf-Steiner inspired school here in Davao City.  I am excited not so much about what they will learn in school (I don't want to pressure them, they're 3!) but I am more excited of how much fun they will have in school.  When we went there last Saturday to attend the first ever Parent Meeting, I was glad that the school took into consideration all of our suggestions.  In essence, most of the rules and regulations the school has are those which we, parents, have discussed and agreed.  Nice right?  No impositions.  Everything was agreed upon through deliberations.

Now, while thinking about school, a link appeared on my twitter feed about "10 Things we Wish our Local Pre-schools Had":

1.  More exposure to cultural performances.
2.  Ideal student-teacher ratios.
3.  A mini-petting zoo.
4.  An enchanted forest.
5.  A library that has answers to everything.
6.  A moment of silence.
7.  A "Junior-Masterchef" like kitchen.
8.  A medical city.
9.  24-hr Surveillance Cameras.
10.  A Yaya Lounge.

Do you wish the pre-schools your kids are enrolled in have these?

At my kids' age, I'm not really very particular about ABC's, reading and writing.  They're just 3.  I just want them to have fun.  So among the 10, I would love a pre-school which has:

1.  Exposure to cultural performances- Cultural performances are a must! These make them appreciate arts and culture.
2.  Ideal student-teacher ratio-  This is one of our main considerations when we were looking for a school.  I don't want too many kids in a class.  For one, they're in kindergarten and needs the attention of the teacher.
4.  An enchanted forest-  I want my kids to be able to explore a forest (Well, not really a forest but something like that.)  I grew up in a subdivision which had plenty of trees and I loved exploring it.  I loved climbing trees!  I want them in a natural environment, and not in strictly confined in a classroom.
6.  A moment of silence- From time to time, adults need silence.  I believe kids need this to.
7.  A kitchen- My kids love to help me cook.  I like watching them help me cook.  It enhances both gross and fine motor skills.  It teaches them responsibility.  It's one fun family activity.
10.  A yaya lounge-  I appreciate it much if a school has a yaya lounge where yaya's don't gossip but rather where they can learn.  I also appreciate it much if a school gives yaya's training and seminars to enrich them.

What about you?  What do you want in a pre-school?
