Project: Kid's Bed

Image
I always have this idea that a kid's childhood must be magical and memorable, just as I had.  You only get to be a kid once right?  So I believe that it is every child's right to enjoy his childhood.   Hence, with this idea in mind, I was searching for a bed that would be magical and memorable at this time.   Here's what I found on the internet.  Nice isn't it?  I can imagine them both sleeping on top and then sliding down upon waking up and shouting "Good morning!".  The bed and cushion is on top while down below is a play area.  I wonder what they'll set up on their play area.  I leave it up to their imagination. When our version of this bed is done, I will post some pics.  I hope Manong Carpenter can spruce this up a bit though.  A bit more color would be more fun! What do you think? The Bed.

Our Version of Art Attack

Image
There are certain things my kids love to do and one of these things is playing with clay. Clay enhances fine motor skills (uhmmm, don't ask me what it means. LOL!).  This is as opposed to gross motor skills (again, don't ask).  I love bringing them clay.  I used to bring them Play Doh  but stopped.  I wouldn't mind the price but the problem is the yayi's  would forget to put them inside the container and seal it.  This dries up the Play Doh and it's money down the drain. So here's what we did last week.  Art attack! With Yayi's  help, Shoti's version of Iron Man. Smile! I made this.  No art talent whatsoever. With my help, this is Caleb's wormy.

Summer Vacation: Bohol 2012

Image
I've always loved Bohol so when my Dad had a scheduled seminar in Cebu, I just wanted to shout "Hurray!"  Vacation time. Among the many beaches I have been to, Bohol is on top of my list.  I like the laid back atmosphere of Bohol. I love how peaceful and calm the place is.  I love snorkeling at Balikasag Island and swimming at the Virgin Islands.  I love touring Bohol over and over again- cruising at the Loboc River, seeing Tarsiers, looking at the Chocolate Hills, to name a few.  They always remind me how beautiful the Philippines is and how wonderful the  world is.  Best of all, some of our relatives live there.  So it will be a sort of little reunion for us. But above all these reasons, the main reason why I wanted to go to Bohol this time is I want to bring my kids along.  My kids love the beach and I know, they will surely love the things that they can do at Bohol.  So here are some snippets of our Bohol trip (sorry, no beac...

Nature Tripping: Mont d'Johan

Image
My kids love the malls.  I love the malls.  The thing is, I don't want my kids to grow up just loving the malls.  The world is a huge place and there's a lot to explore.  So there are times when I give in to going to unknown places (no matter how difficult it is) just so to expose them to how interesting and beautiful the world is. Yesterday was one of those times.  Preparing to go nature-tripping is such a big moment for us (well, going out has always been considered a big moment for us since we have to bring and carry stuff for two!).  Playtex drop-ins are on top of the list.  Do we still have liners left?  Check.  Clothes (lots of them!).  Check.  Swimming trunks.  Check.  Towels.  Check.  Diapers (we just use them whenever we go out).  Check.  Lampin (lots of them, too!).  Check.  Sunblock.  Check.  Oh, lest we forget their wipey (it's their security blanket- the teddy bear one...

Stop Child Abuse!

Image
There's this video shared by a sorority sister of mine which is so heart wrenching and heart breaking.  It is a video of a mother who is physically abusing her child who's less than a year old.  I was not even able to finish watching this video.  It made me cry. Mother's are given the task to rear and take care of a child.  I wonder where this mother got her notion of parenting.  I read that this happened in Malaysia where the mother was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment.  I believe the sentence is not commensurate to the offense committed.  She should have been hanged!

The Making of the Palitaw

Image
It's Labor Day! No work and plenty of time to bond with the kids. So today, we decided to make a Filipino speciality- palitaw. All you need are: 1. Glutinous rice (2 cups); 2. Water (1 cup); 3. Sesame seeds (1/2 cup); 4. Grated coconut (2 cups); and 5. Sugar (1 cup). We had fun shaping the palitaw! Although not shaped perfectly, the palitaw's we made tasted alright. Caleb and Calix even tried it. I wonder what we're going to make next.  Palitaw, anyone? The Sesame Seeds Grated coconuts, sesame seeds and sugar. Glutinous rice. Helping Mama. Finished product- palitaw!
