On Fast Food versus Proper Nutrition

Image
Earlier this morning, after dropping the kids off at the school, I was browsing over my Twitter feed (hubby was driving, don't worry!).  A famous celebrity, someone who I look up to and a lot of people look up to, tweeted this:        @--------------- my power breakfast from @McDo_ph! how are you starting your day? I admit, we eat at fast food joints sometimes.  I don't love fast food joints, but I sometimes like to eat what they offer.  And then there's the occasional happy or kiddie meal for the kids.  We sometimes crave for burgers, fries, and the like.  I crave for McDonald's mostly, sometimes Jollibee or KFC.  The thing is though, I know and we all know, fast food is unhealthy. So when this celebrity tweeted the statement above, I got a bit upset.  Upset foremost because it's again the social media versus parents who are conscious about proper nutrition.  I know, she has every right to post it.  That's...

Then and Now: TM Batchmates through the years..

Image
We were dubbed as Batch 2001-A.  We've known each other since 2001.  It's been more than 10 years and yet, when we're together, it feels like we're 1st year law students once again (remember how rowdy we were last night?!).  It's good to reminisce.  It's good to remember how much fun we had, where we have started and where we are right now.  Time indeed flies, we may have gone our separate ways, some of us now have our own families and responsibilities, but the friendship remains.  Here's a look at our then and now (we're indeed getting old!).......... THEN..... I believe this was in 2007 at Trinoma. Mel and Mayett's wedding. I don't know where this pic was taken.  I was absent!  Also in 2007.  Bar Exams. Taken at People's Park, one of Davao's top destinations. I don't when and where this was taken.  Also absent.  My sisters always look hot! Lunch somewhere near UIC.  I think Don Beppe....

Here goes: What we do in school....

The kids started classes last Wednesday.  I'd always wonder what they're doing in school.  Are they having fun in class?  Are they doing okay?  But even if I am wondering, I always know that they're having fun because if they're not having fun, I would think they would not want to go to school the next day.  But since they like going to school, they probably love school. And then the school posted pictures on their Facebook Page .  Yahoo!!! Time to take a sneak peak at what the kiddos do at school.  Here goes.... Preparing for naptime!  My Caleb has no shorts, only underwear.. Lol! Drawing time for Calix.. Caleb is hungry!  I'm eating my crackers.. Calix is planting.  He loves his boots! Going down the stairs at the playground.  Here comes the kids! Caleb's attempt at planting.  They have matching boots.  He loves it too! Hi! We're having fun!!!

A Rundown of our First Week of Classes

Image
Last June 13, Wednesday, was the first day of the twins' kindergarten class.  We had a bit of a hectic morning- waking up, giving them their breakfast, giving them a bath, and dressing them up for school (they don't have uniforms, they just have a color of the day!).  And then we had to rush them to the place where they will be picked up by the school bus.  All in all, they (including the yaya), had to carry their back packs, and two other bags which contained their banig, pillows, boots, slippers, and umbrellas. No food needed as the school provides them with a heavy merienda (but just in case, I placed bread sticks and yogurt on their bags).   We never had crying scenes with them ever since they enrolled in Tuburan.  Over the summer, they had play classes and we never had difficulty in waking them up for their 8.30am class and we never had difficulty leaving them.  Even if you ask them at night if they want to go to school the next day, they would s...

Last Hurrah (and an Incident!)

Image
Yesterday, June 10, we went to Paradise Island Beach Resort (no introduction to Dabawenyo's!) .  This has always been the place where my husband and my parents watch Manny's fight.  I don't watch.  I'm kinda like the bantay bata  during the entire time that Manny fights.  I just wait for the news on who won.  Boxing is a different world for me.  I am not just into it. The tide was on our side yesterday.  Our usual experience that when we arrive it's high tide going to low tide.  By the time it's 12nn, there's no more water (Raise your hands for those who have experienced this at Paradise!) and the kids would wail.  Yesterday, though, when we arrived, water was still on the low tide going to high tide.  Weeeee! Kids were very happy.  When we left at 3pm, there was still water on the beach.  How cool is that?! So here are some pics of our last hurrah before school starts! (I'm praying though that we can still find time f...

Pre-school Wish List

Image
The twins are now officially enrolled in kindergarten at the Tuburan Institute, Inc., a Waldorf-Steiner inspired school here in Davao City.  I am excited not so much about what they will learn in school (I don't want to pressure them, they're 3!) but I am more excited of how much fun they will have in school.  When we went there last Saturday to attend the first ever Parent Meeting, I was glad that the school took into consideration all of our suggestions.  In essence, most of the rules and regulations the school has are those which we, parents, have discussed and agreed.  Nice right?  No impositions.  Everything was agreed upon through deliberations. Now, while thinking about school, a link appeared on my twitter feed about "10 Things we Wish our Local Pre-schools Had": 1.  More exposure to cultural performances. 2.  Ideal student-teacher ratios. 3.  A mini-petting zoo. 4.  An enchanted forest. 5.  A library that has an...
