On the day I passed the bar..

Yesterday, February 29, marked the new beginning for some people who passed the Bar Examinations.  It certainly was a leap year for them.

I specifically remember the day and year I passed.  It was April 3, 2009.  Two weeks after I gave birth.  It was the second time I took the Bar Exams so passing it became all the more pressing apart from the fact that we now have twins.  I knew it would be released that day, I just did not know what time it will be released.  So it was business as usual in our house.  Bathing the babies, breastfeeding the babies, cleaning the babies.  It was all about the babies!  I did not actually have time to really think about it.  Sometimes I'd catch a glimpse of the television and know that a lot of people are already waiting outside the Supreme Court grounds waiting for the results.  And then the babies would cry and the television had to be left for a while.

At around 5pm, I peed.  And I prayed.  And then I felt an overwhelming peace.  I felt like I passed.  At 6pm, I prepared the babies for sleep.  Gave them a bath, fed them and sang to them.  Still no results.  At around 7pm I finally told my husband I'd go to sleep as I don't think the results would be out soon.  I think as soon as I laid down on the bed, my phone rang.  My phone is ringing! That means one thing.  Good news! It was Atty. Batacan.  He called me up to congratulate me.  And that was when I shouted and cried which of course startled the twins. But hey, after all I have been through (although I believe bar examinees go through a lot), I finally made it.

So today, I would like to congratulate all those who passed the Bar Exams.  The journey may have been difficult but it is because of the difficulties that we truly appreciate our being lawyers.  God speed!
